Electrification
The shift from internal combustion engines to electric motors.
We are now on the path towards the powertrain of the future.
In this journey, Toray offers optimal solutions for today’s diverse powertrain systems, featuring engineering plastics that replace metal components in engine systems, electric motors and their controlling components, as well as PPS resins and films used in batteries.
Our Solutions
Improved insulation properties of motor films

Excellent heat resistance, flame retardancy, chemical resistance, and electrical characteristics provide high reliability and efficient performance as an insulating film for the motors, which are key components of xEV. It can also be used as a composite in combination with different materials.
Improving the performance of lithium-ion batteries

Lithium-ion batteries require higher performance. Toray's next-generation electrode material achieves high power output and long-distance travel. These performance needs are met by our lineup, including the reliable separator film "SETERA™".
Improved performance of fuel cell vehicles

Carbon paper for electrode base materials, hydrocarbon electrolyte membrane, and carbon fiber "TORAYCA™" for hydrogen tanks are used in fuel cell vehicles. For different powertrain needs, Toray offers the best solution.
Insulating resin for electric axles

PPS resin "TORELINA™" and PBT resin "TORAYCON™" are used as insulating resins for power modules, busbars, terminal blocks, and connectors found in electrification units (e-Axles, etc.), key powertrain components in electric vehicles, thanks to their excellent heat resistance and insulating properties. By applying our resin, we can achieve a reduction in weight through smaller parts and functional integration.
Fine particles for 3D printers for small lot parts

Toray's TORAYMILL™ ︎PPS, PPS fine particles for 3D printers, are often used in the initial prototyping of xEV and FCV-related components (such as motor insulators, busbars and water jackets), enabling shorter delivery times and reducing costs.
Capacitor film

This biaxially oriented polypropylene film is lightweight, highly transparent, strong, and has excellent odor retention properties, making it widely used in film capacitors for xEV.
